Pruning Tips

  1. Remove branches that cross each other, grow into the same space, or grow into the center of the canopy.
  2. Preserve low limbs and inner branching as much as possible.
  3. Cut to the branch collar (Outside the collar will leave a stub. Flush to the parent limb/trunk will make difficult would for the tree to close.)
  4. Re-leader:
    • When reducing a limb, cut back to a branch at least 1/3 the size of the parent limb.
  5. Remove no more than 30% of a tree’s canopy.
